Fun Halloween Activities in Charleston

As Charleston's heat starts to cool down, it means the seasons are changing and that fall is finally upon us. The emergence of fall comes along with one of the most mischievous and spooky times of the year–Halloween season. This time of year is filled with ghouls and goblins and is the perfect time to gather your friends or family and enjoy fun Halloween activities in Charleston! Whether you are a family with young children or a group of friends looking to mingle, Chucktown has a fun-filled Halloween experience for everyone!

Family Activities:

  • For the perfect family-oriented activity, look no further than Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens. Located in Mt. Pleasant, this historic Lowcountry landmark has been celebrating spooky season since 1997. Starting Friday, October 7th, and going until October 30th, Boone Hall will have a pumpkin patch, eight-acre corn maze, haunted house, tractor rides, fight nights, and so much more. This October tradition has a little something for everyone of all ages, click here for more information.

  • Nothing says ghosts like a night-time tour of Magnolia Cemetary guided by Bulldog Tours! This tour is the first official walking tour of the historic site, previously off limits to commercial tour companies. The 90-minute walking tours promise the best of Magnolia's history, mystery, and spirits. You'll hear startling stories about the unsolved murder of a socialite, an outraged politician who ordered his butler's execution, and scandalous tragedies never written about in history books. Click here for more information.

  • If you are looking for a more budget-friendly excursion, check out some of the stunning homes around the Charleston peninsula. From the Battery to Broad Street and beyond, the homes around downtown are dressed for the Halloween occasion. Walking around downtown without Halloween decorations is already stunning, but the added Halloween element makes it a whole new (spooky) experience. Plus checking out the downtown decor is a great way to stretch your legs and get more in touch with the beauty of Charleston.

Adult Activities:

  • Looking for a more formal Halloween event? Look no further than the 6th annual Halloween Masquerade Ball Gold Party hosted at one of Charleston's oldest premier venues, Society Hall. Taking place on October 29th this 21+ ticketed event has both regular and VIP ticket options. Equipt with a live band, open bar, and delicious hors d'oeuvres, this Halloween extravaganza is the perfect way to meet new people and dance the night away. • If you are looking for something a little less formal, a good old-fashioned Charleston bar crawl is the way to go. When it comes to bar crawls, you have two different options. Starting with The 5th Annual Halloween Bar Crawl. Taking place on Saturday, October 29th, this one-day Halloween adventure kicks off at Bay Street Biergarten and continues around an array of local downtown bars. Click here for more information and tickets.

  • The second option is Trick or Drink: Charleston Halloween Bar Crawl, this three-day excursion starts on Friday, October 28th, continuing to Saturday, October 29th, and ends on Monday, October 31st. Crawlers have different choices when it comes to purchasing tickets, from one-day passes to three-day deluxe crawl packages. Festivities kick off at John King Dueling Piano Bar and continue to King Street favorites such as The Rarebit and Silver Dollar. This three-day crawl is the perfect way to unwind, mingle, and truly get in touch with the renowned Charleston bar scene.
